"As a mom of two boys I never once imagined I'd become a "dance mom." Last summer two current LAD dance moms encouraged us to attend the free dance class being offered, so I gathered up a few friends from preschool so he would know some kids, and it was by far the best decision we've ever made for our little boy. I still watch a video of that first free summer class as a reminder of how immediately happy and carefree he was; things he never appeared to be in other activities we had him try. Now a full year later, he's performing in his first tap routine on a big stage and LOVING every minute of it. He counts down the days til “dance day” comes again, because he looks forward to his dance class so much. A few weeks ago he asked why he was the only boy in his dance class. I didn't know what to say, because I don't want him to think for a second that there are people out there who think "boys don't dance," because that statement is 100% false. I think about dancers like Fred Astaire, Gregory Hines, Savion Glover, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Twitch, Fik-Shun, etc. and I know in my heart that at LAD he will thrive and have the potential to become a great dancer. I would encourage all parents, including those of young boys, to enroll their children at LAD. The staff and other dance families are so welcoming, caring, and encouraging. In just 10 short months this studio has become one of my son's favorite places to be!
